During times of stress, such as the current COVID-19 pandemic crisis we are experiencing, it is important to take good care of your mental health, especially if you have returned to working with others. Everyone reacts differently in these situations, but it is worth recognising that those around you will also be struggling with anxiety, stress and trauma.

Once you have returned to the workplace it is a good idea to consider the factors that can impact on your wellbeing.

Are you concerned about the risk of being exposed to the virus?

Does the pandemic mean that you are now managing a different workload?

Do you feel uncertain about your future at work?

Have you had to adapt to a different workspace or are you now working with people with whom you haven’t had to share a workspace before?

How to manage those issues:

Try to identify the things which you do not have control over and do the best you can with the resources available to you.

Communicate with your colleagues and managers about the stress that you are now experiencing and try to identify solutions.

Talk openly with others about how the pandemic is affecting your work.

Eft tapping for stress can be handy in the workplace as it is a quick way to bring down anxiety.

EFT Tapping is an invaluable resource and can be utilised in the workplace but it is important to wash your hands vigorously for at least 20 seconds before tapping.

EFT tapping in 5 steps:

  1. Identify the issue – for instance anxiety in the workplace
  2. Test the initial intensity

After you identify your problem area, you need to set a benchmark level of intensity. The intensity level is rated on a scale from 0 to 10, with 10 being the worst or most difficult.

  1. Establish a phrase

Prior to tapping, you need to establish a phrase that explains what you’re trying to address. It must focus on two main goals:

  • acknowledging the issues
  • accepting yourself despite the problem

Even though I feel so anxious at work that I want to leave and go home right now, I deeply and completely accept myself and these feelings.”

  1. EFT tapping sequence

The EFT tapping sequence is the methodical tapping on the ends of nine meridian points.

  • karate chop
  • top of head
  • eyebrow
  • side of the eye
  • under the eye
  • under the nose
  • chin
  • beginning of the collarbone
  • under the arm

Begin by tapping the karate chop point while simultaneously reciting your setup phrase three times. Then, tap each point seven times, moving down the body in ascending order as above.

  1. Test the final intensity

At the end of your sequence, rate your intensity level on a scale from 0 to 10. Compare your results with your initial intensity level. If you haven’t reached 0, repeat this process until you do

Try tapping on specific issues rather than everything that you are concerned about.
