Do you remember when you were at school and the teacher would divide the class into groups to work together on a project?

Working with others in a team when every member of that team is dedicated to achieving the same goal can help to get things done more efficiently and successfully.

“Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.”…  Andrew Carnegie

Andrew Carnegie was a Scottish/American industrialist who led the expansion of the steel industry in America in the late 19th century.

The “Andrew Carnegie Dictum” was:

  • To spend the first third of one’s life getting all the education one can;
  • To spend the next third making all the money one can;
  • To spend the last third giving it all away for worthwhile causes.

Above all, Andrew Carnegie understood the value of teamwork.

“The only irreplaceable capital an organization possesses is the knowledge and ability of its people. The productivity of that capital depends on how effectively people share their competence with those who can use it.”… Andrew Carnegie

The question is, especially in this day and age and at a time when the workplace is splintered because of the coronavirus pandemic, how do you focus and motivate a group of individuals to share their knowledge and operate as a team?

Communication is key to ensure that everyone better understands that they are working towards the same goals. Improve the listening skills of your employees, create trust and openly share ideas. When colleagues don’t listen to each other, the entire communication process breaks down
