How can you keep your employees happy and productive during the festive season?

This can be a tough prospect at a time of year when expectations are set high, both in the workplace and in the personal space. Money is important and family demands can lead to stress and worry for your staff.

In a climate where the economy may not be quite as vibrant as in previous years and your company may not be in a position to pay bonuses, there are other things that you can do to appease hardworking employees and keep morale up, and after all – your employees are your most important customers! If you look after your employees, they will look after your customers.

Show your employees that they feel valued and your business will flourish. Consider giving them non-cash gifts or other perks such as extra time off or flexible hours during the holidays this year. Not only will they appreciate this gesture, but their families will too. A day off before the 25th December will give them much needed time for Christmas present shopping and a day or two afterwards will give them more time to recuperate and relax and will contribute to looking after their health and well-being.

Plan an office party and celebrate the company’s achievements during the year or ask your staff for their suggestions on ways to contribute to a local charity in a fun and engaging way. Doing something for the local community and giving back will definitely give everyone that goodwill feeling and strengthen relationships in the workplace.

There may be no Christmas bonus this year, but investing in your workforce in other ways will go a long way towards showing them that you care.
