Fiona Young qualified as a solicitor in the UK in 2000 and has worked in both private practice in the City of London and Gibraltar, and in house for an insurance company. She was called to the Gibraltar Bar in 2003. She has extensive experience of resolving various disputes from low value landlord and tenant issues, employment disputes, to multinational insurance claims and bankruptcy actions.
Fiona has always strongly advised both her clients and opponents of the need to utilise alternative methods of dispute resolution. She has experienced first-hand, time and time again, the benefits of early settlement and out of court resolution, both in terms of cost, time saving and emotional impact on the parties. In 2014, she trained to become an accredited inter personal mediator. Enthused by her experience of the mediation process, Fiona went on to take the higher level of mediation qualification achieving her accreditation as a commercial mediator in November 2015. Since then Fiona has facilitated both interpersonal and commercial mediations and has spoken on the subject of mediation at a number of conferences and symposiums as well as providing regular training to companies on mediation and conflict resolution. More Recently Fiona has been appointed by the Gibraltar Government as an approved mediator for the Industrial Tribunal compulsory mediation service. Fiona has recently completed a post graduate diploma in International Commercial Arbitration through the University of Queen Mary London and remains passionate about advocating effective alternatives to court processes.
