What’s hot and what’s not:

We look at some of the Social Media trends that you can expect to see during this year.

According to Hootsuite, the social media management platform, social media usage will continue to grow, especially in countries such as Africa, with the number of internet users across the continent increasing by more than 20 percent year-over-year.

Instagram

This is the one to watch and get involved with if you are looking to increase your social media marketing strategy.

There will be an increased dominance of Instagram, especially amongst older users. Hootsuite CEO Ryan Holmes predicts that Instagram will quickly evolve over the next few years and become the new home for brands. Instagram will continue its transformation into both an e-commerce platform and a long-form video platform, along with a new focus on conversion through influencer marketing.

Facebook

Despite new platforms dominating the market (see TikTok below) Facebook continues to grow and is still popular with marketers with its continual improvement of the system through updates and new tools. However, watch out for an increase in ad costs.

Twitter

Video is king and playing an increasingly important part as the type of content consumers want to see more of. A HubSpot 2017 Content Trends Survey found out that the majority of consumers prefer to see video content from a brand or business they support. Some 54% of consumers prefer video while 46% prefer emails or newsletters and 41% prefer social images.

TikTok

TikTok is a video-sharing social media platform for creating, sharing and discovering short music videos with the most common type of video uploaded on to the platform being lip syncing videos. It is the new-kid-on-the-block but looks like it could become the next big thing in social media marketing and an opportunity to connect with your audience in a fun and original way.

No matter whether you are a brand or a marketer it’s really important to stay on top of the latest social media trends.
